Career :
Although born in Hunslet, Bernard Poole began his career at Hull before joining Leeds in August 1950. A Trojan worker, he appeared for Leeds on 288 occasion, scoring 50 tries. He earned recognition with England once and Yorkshire on nine occasions. After being beaten in the 1951 and 54 semi finals his reward came in 1957 as Leeds lifted the Challenge Cup by beating Barrow at Wembley. He was the Mr Consistency in a legendary Leeds pack and was never afraid of hard work on defence or attack. The phrase unsung hero was made for him. |
