Ewan became the first ever player to sign a dual code contract when he joined Leeds Rhinos and Leeds Tykes. In 2002 he made two substitute appearances against Wakefield and St Helens in August. Dowes made a total of 11 appearances for the Rhinos. Rugby Career : Ewan is a former England U19 rugby union international however since 2001 he has been concentrating on his rugby league career. In May 2003 Dowes went on loan to Hull, during this period his performances made such an impression on the team he earned a two year full-time contract.
