Career :
Ben Walker burst onto the scene for the Rhinos after arriving in the close season of 2002. After impressive performances in the pre-season games much was expected of the man who had been brought in to replace Iestyn Harris at stand off and kicking duties. Walker's debut could not have been better as he scored six minutes into it against Bradford at Valley Parade and collected 12 of the Rhinos 17 points that day.
In his one season at the club he made 27 starts with one substitute appearance scoring 12 tries and 119 goals totally 286 points. At the end of the season, Ben decided to return home to Australia and rejoined his former club Northern Eagles, which had returned to being Manly Sea Eagles. |
Rugby
Career :
Ben started out with the club he supported as a boy, the Brisbane Broncos. He excelled as a junior in Queensland and was keenly watched by the Broncos scouts, along with Tonie Carroll. He made his debut for the Broncos against Parramatta in Rd 13 of the 1995 season and went on to play 97 first grade games.
He originally played for the Valleys junior club in Toowoomba and represented Australian Schoolboys in 1993 (from St Marys College, Toowoomba), Queensland Under-17s (1993), Australian Under-17 merit side (1993), Australian Under-19s (1994) and Queensland Under-19s (1995). 2001 saw him move to the newly formed Northern Eagles 2001, where he finished the season as top points scorer in the NRL. Ben also spent a loan spell at the London Broncos in 1995-96 scoring six tries, five goals and three drop goals in sixteen games. |
