A fantastic event arrives at Headingley Carnegie this week with the inaugural Carnegie Floodlit Nines tournament.
The first round sees sponsors Leeds Metropolitan University take on the British Army. The winner of that match will face a daunting encounter against Carnegie Challenge Cup finalists Hull FC in the second round.
The other second round matches see hosts Leeds Rhinos take on Huddersfield Giants in the only all Super League tie, Justin Morgan’s Hull Kingston Rovers are up against Cumbria and Wakefield Trinity Wildcats will play the flamboyant Fiji UK side.
Rugby League’s newest tournament takes place at Headingley Carnegie Stadium on Wednesday 27 August 2008. The first round match kicks off at 6:10pm. The second round ties get underway at 6:30pm with tournament favourites Leeds Rhinos taking on Huddersfield Giants in the opening game of the round.
Commenting on the draw, Event Director, Lionel Hurst said,
"In the week when the Olympic Games open, the great sport of Rugby League is quickest out of the blocks to secure the first gold.
“The stunning draw for the first ever Carnegie Floodlit 9s is pure gold with an array of sparkling clashes.
“Headingley Carnegie Stadium will provide the perfect stage for Rugby League's great athletes."

Turnstiles open at 4.30pm and Leeds Met have planned a great evening of entertainment for the whole family, including the Carnegie Carnival on the cricket ground adjacent to the rugby ground with activities for everyone to enjoy.
