Career :
2007 saw prop Luke Burgess spend two loan spells with Super League side Harlequins and National one club Doncaster. At Quins he made 3 substitute appearances, which included a place in the game against Bradford Bulls, where he faced his brother Sam. He then went to Doncaster where he played in 7 games and scored 1 try against Widnes in the league.
He returns to the Rhinos this season and will be hoping to impress new boss Brian McClennan and force his way into the first team squad. He has already played in three games in the pre season warm ups, helping the team retain the Lazenby Cup with victory over Hunslet, which was followed up with another win over Feathertone.
Born in Wakefield, Luke attended Heckmondwike Grammar school before joining the Academy in 2003. In 2005 he featured in 18 games for the Academy and scored 1 try. He was also part of the Senior Academy side who won the First Division Grand Final against Widnes. In 2006 he made 20 appearances for the Rhinos U21 side and scored 3 tries. He ended the season on a high when he was named in the side who defeated Hull 1-0 to secure the Senior Academy title. Last year he played in a further 11 games, which included a place in that years Senior Academy Grand Final where he scored a try against Hull.
Luke made his first run out with the senior squad at the end of 2006 when he came on from the bench in the Rhinos’ Boxing Day win over Yorkshire rivals Wakefield Trinity Wildcats. He was then named in the Rhinos starting line up against Hunslet in the Lazenby Cup victory.

Luke has played in the England and Great Britain students side and was part of the National Cup winners squad. |
Personal
Details :
Luke's favourite film is Man On Fire and programme is Deal or No Deal. In Rugby he most admires Bob Pickles and the greatest influence on his career has been his Dad. If he could have a super power he would like to be able to fly and he says in a film about his life anyone could play him as long as they were good looking! |
