Leeds
Career :
Kylie Leuluai joined the Rhinos in 2007 and enjoyed a fantastic debut season as part of Leeds’ Grand Final winning squad. A tough, no nonsense front rower, Leuluai made his Rhinos debut on the opening day of the 2007 season against Salford City Reds and went onto make 11 more starts and 19 substitute appearances. As a big hitter Leuluai provided the Rhinos with power and was at his best for the team in the Grand Final Play Off game against St Helens where he had a barnstorming performance. He notched up one try in the season, which came against Salford at Headingley Carnegie. |
Rugby
Career :
He is a former team mate of current Rhino Scott Donald, whom he played with at Manly. He was also played in the same New Zealand U19 side as his new team mate - Ali Lauitiiti and he played in the New Zealand Maoris side with Clinton Toopi in the 2000 World Cup. Remarkably all three come from the same junior club back in New Zealand, Papatoetoe Panthers, where Kylie began his junior rugby, before he joined Balmain where he made his first grade debut in 1999 against Brisbane and went onto to spend one season with the club. From here he enjoyed two seasons with Wests Tigers, before joining Sydney Roosters in 2002. The following year he signed for Paramatta and that season was named Premier League player of the year after a fantastic campaign at the New South Wales club. After just a season with the Eels he was once again on the move, this time to Manly Sea Eagles where he quickly established himself as a first team regular. In his debut campaign he made 22 appearances and scored 3 tries. In his second season at the club he was once again a key player in the side, playing in 19 games. His final season came in 2006, when he made 16 appearances and helped the side to a NRL play off position.
In 2006 Kylie joined the Samoan team as they made their bid to make it to the 2008 World Cup, and he helped their cause by scoring a try in the 30-28 win over Fiji in last year’s qualifier in Sydney. |
Personal
Details :
Kylie’s middle name is Macgraff and his first name is actually Hawaiian in origin. His favourite television programme is either Prison Break or the OC and his favourite type of music is reggae, in particular Bob Marley. Unsurprisingly the first record he bought was Uprising by Bob Marley and his favourite song to sing in karaoke is No Woman, No Cry.
Kylie is a devout Christian and attends The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and his favourite film is one produced by the church called Together Forever. If he could be another person for a day he would be Jesus Christ.
His favourite ground away from Headingley Carnegie is Brookvale Oval, the home of his former club Manly Sea Eagles. His childhood hero was All Blacks Rugby Union star Michael Jones and he thinks that after his retires from rugby he will be have a career in the building industry.
